There's not much left of old textiles or felt in Hungary. The intension of doing a course with Judith Pocs was cancelled due to circumstances. She is a well known felt artist giving classes abroad.
We managed to meet each other at her place at Keckskemet. It was a fine experience and I want to share here artworks with you.

Kékfestés or blue dyeing is a nearly extinct art in Hungary. We managed to visit master artist Miklos Kovacs in Tiszakeckske.
It's all about templates covered with wax and marked on cloth, which goes later in the indigo vat.
It's a pity they use synthetic blue these days.
We were very glad visiting these people unexpected. The templates are very old and beautiful handmade.
There was no communication due to the very difficult Hungarian language.

Visiting the puszta, the steppe landscape of the great Hungarian plain, we saw special animals, including the Mangalica pig or wool pig.
Yes, a pig with wool! People used to make gloves out of the wool.
This animal has special properties, the meat has unsaturated fatty acids and omega3 but 3x higher than fish.
We saw also a herd of Racka sheep.
The shepherds who used to live in the puszta wore sheepskins.

In the village Papa we visit the Kékfesto (indigo) museum. We enjoy the beautiful exhibition and collection of Catherine Legrand.
She collected indigo textiles from around the world.

In the old factory the dye pits are empty. Upstairs we discover the permanent exhibition of textile artist Irén Brody with block printed works.

Later we visit the Zsolnay factory (cultural quarter, ceramics 1853). I spot some olde 19th century textiles and some felted dolls in the puppetry house.
